Shelter Veterinarian

CARE STL is seeking a shelter veterinarian with a passion for helping stray, neglected and owner surrendered animals heal phsyically, emotionally and mentally so that they can be adopted into loving homes. This position deals mostly with internal shelter staff and has limited contact with members of the public.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Ability to perform approximately 15 spay/neuter surgeries per-day. Ability to perform other surgeries, dentals as needed.

  • Ensures all animals receive appropriate and timely medical care. Works closely with other departments to make sure all animals' medical needs are met; prescribes medications as needed.

  • Refer shelter animals to specialty or emergency clinics as needed.

  • Practices high quality shelter medicine; an emphasis is placed on problem solving through physical  examinations and use of in house diagnostics when possible.

  • Maintains detailed medical records in Shelterluv; enters medical notes in a timely manner.

  • Communicates with fosters, volunteers, and potential adopters when necessary.

  • Assesses the quality of life of shelter patients and performs medical euthanasias when necessary.

  • Provides input on behavioral euthanasia decisions and performs behavioral euthanasia whennecessary.

  • Participates in community outreach events such as wellness clinics, microchip clinics, and public  spay/neuter clinics.

  • Provide veterinary services to owned community animals as directed by VP: Operations

  • Delegates select Veterinary Technicians, as appropriate.

  • Other duties as assigned by the VP: Operations.

Qualifications:

Currently licensed in the state of Missouri to practice veterinary medicine. A Doctor of Veterinary Medicine(D.V.M. or V.M.D.) degree from an accredited college of veterinary medicine. Must be qualified andeligible to obtain DEA license.

 

Work Type: Exempt, Full-time

Schedule: 5 days a week 8am – 5pm, includes 2 weekend days per month

Salary: Commensurate with experience

Physical Demands:
  • Ability to frequently stand, walk, sit, talk, stoop, bend, squat or kneel.

  • Ability to safely push, pull, and lift up to 50 pounds.

  • Ability to physically handle and restrain domestic animals.

  • Ability to read computer screens, email and to communicate effectively.

Animal Caregiver

CARE STL is seeking caregivers a passion for helping animals, seeking a career in improving the lives of the stray, abused, neglected animals that come into our shelter for care and adoption into loving homes. You will be joining a team of hard-working fellow animal-lovers to take care of an average of 100 dogs and 50 cats, daily.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Ensuring dog and cat kennels are thoroughly cleaned daily, to provide a sanitary and safe resting place for the animals in our care.

  • Preparing and distributing food for dogs and cats

  • General shelter cleaning including mopping floors; washing food bowls, water bowls, and toys; and cleaning litterboxes

  • Washing, drying, folding and storing laundry

  • Walking dogs daily to give them time outside for exercise, enrichment and potty breaks.

Qualifications:
  • Passion for helping animals

  • Must be able to lift at least 65lbs

  • Must be able to stand/walk for 4 hours at a time

  • Must be able to bend to scrub kennels and set blankets on dog beds

  • Must be able to tolerate working in a loud shelter environment

 

Work Type: Hourly, part-time/full-time

Schedule: Part-time (25-29 hours per week) and full-time (40 hours per week) positions available. Must be available to work weekend shifts

Wage: $13/hour with review after six months
