Animal Handler & Caregiver
Are you passionate about hands-on work and caring for dogs? Do you have a solid background in animal care? If yes, we have a fantastic opportunity for you to provide daily care for our shelter dogs and make a difference in their lives. We invite you to join our animal handlers and caregivers team at CARE STL. As an animal handler and caregiver, your role is instrumental in ensuring our dogs are well-prepared for their future homes. Your knowledge and enthusiasm will undoubtedly positively impact the lives of our furry friends. As an animal handler and caregiver, you will play a crucial role in laying the groundwork for our dogs to thrive in their future homes. Your enthusiasm and expertise will positively impact their lives while they are with us, helping them prepare to meet their future families and ultimately find forever homes.
Join us in providing daily care for shelter dogs and executing training plans for each of them. Working collaboratively in a large team, you'll interact with clients, volunteers, and colleagues while supporting Animal Control Officers.
To qualify for this role, you must be free from allergies that could be irritated by animal hair, fur, feathers, and dust. You'll be exposed to cleaning chemicals and required to clean and disinfect the shelter daily.
This role involves physical demands, including standing for 4-8 hours straight while cleaning kennels, walking many dogs all day, and providing daily enrichment. You must be able to lift at least 65 lbs. But the reward of seeing the dogs happy and healthy makes all the hard work worth it.
Experience in handling dogs from a shelter or rescue environment is an added advantage, as you may be required to be on-call for Animal Control Officers 1-2 nights a week. You must be interested in animal welfare and be willing to work overtime when needed.
Reporting any animal health or temperament abnormalities is crucial to the role. Ensuring a safe environment for both people and animals is our top priority. The successful candidate must become shelter fear-free certified as part of the onboarding process.
We believe in exhibiting professionalism, courtesy, and strong organizational skills in always representing CARE STL. Other duties may be assigned as required.
