We’d like to share Astro’s story with you. Just yesterday we sent him out for lifesaving emergency surgery to correct a urinary tract obstruction. UT obstructions are often the result of plugs of inflammatory crystals and mucus that have formed in the kidneys and have then passed down into the bladder, where they clump together and block the urethra like a tiny ball of needles. It’s very painful & unrelenting. 2 1/2 years ago his previous family took a $1700 loan out to fix this same issue. Unfortunately, Astro's dad lost his job recently, and they couldn’t afford another surgery for him. They came to us, and at #CARESTL we do our best to give every animal a second chance—including our shelter practice of rehabilitating animals suffering from or exposed to treatable, contagious illnesses, and providing emergency medical services for them. The Vet said Astro will need a catheter for several days, requiring him to be hospitalized for around 5 days, depending on how he recovers. He’ll also need special food for the rest of his life to prevent this from happening again. Astro is a handsome 9 yr. old ragdoll feline, with still so much love to give. He will be available for adoption once he is medically cleared.
