Operation PitKitSTOP

Operation Pit (and Kit!) Stop Spay/Neuter Initiative

Operation Pitstop is a free spay/neuter program sponsored by the Coalition for Pet Progress and Wings of Rescue. More than 15 local animal welfare organizations are participating. It will take place over two months, from March 23, 2024, to May 18, 2024, to fix 1,000 owned pit bull and bully breed dogs and community cats.

Our region is overwhelmed by a dramatic rise in the number of homeless and unwanted dogs and cats. This has resulted in a state of emergency for our region’s shelter and rescue organizations, which are operating at or above capacity and struggling to serve this unprecedented number of pets-in-need. The influx of animals is unrelenting and in areas like North St. Louis, East St. Louis and rural communities in Southern Missouri, the number of stray and roaming dogs and cats is alarming.

It is our belief that by working together and putting more resources toward spay/neuter programs targeting owned pets, we can help alleviate this pet overpopulation issue. Operation Pitstop is a first-of-its-kind community-wide collaboration with a goal of fixing 1000 owned dogs and cats in a 2-month period.
